I looked starched and formal in my military uniform, but the closer we came to dropping onto the runway, the more my stomach tied itself in knots. Earlier visits to the spirit world had left my nervous system incredibly sensitive and painfully precognitive. Anxiety attacks warned me that difficult situations were on the way, and that morning, one was on the way. While I peered out the airplane’s small porthole at O’Hare below, my stomach felt like a butter churn. Something big was about to happen, something life changing, and I had no idea what kept me from jumping up and running down the center aisle screaming.
